Kat's Pendant

While at Tempe Yarn and Fiber in December, Kat handed me an envelope containing 12 little jewels.  She knew I worked with polymer clay and wanted me to make her a pendant containing all of them.  "Each one has its own story," she said in the card housing the jewels.  "You're the artist.  Just make something you think is beautiful."

Apparently she's held on to some of these for close to 40 years.  I can't say how much trouble I had even starting this.  Normally, with a special order, I have a tiny bit of apprehension, but something like this...

My inspiration was the history of the pieces, as well as their generally mismatched nature.  I thought of archaic jewelry and how beautiful so much of it was with gems of every color, shape, and size all made into show stopping pieces for the ancient elite.

With this in mind, I tried to make something that looked like a timeworn and dearly loved keepsake.  I hope I did justice to her little treasures.
